The Art of AUTUMN...We love to drive around Arkansas during October, it's one of the most spectacular sites & relaxing ways to spend the day! The best drive is on a day after the rain or on an overcast & slightly rainy day; even driving in a light drizzle or heavy mist with a gentle blowing wind every now & then is so magical. The rain makes the bark on the trees contrast with the color of the leaves glistening in a way that dry, bright light just doesn't. In the morning there is a mystical haze in the air; a bit of fog hovers over the grass & pond, while the sun rises over the ridge through the trees. Some might even say it seems spiritually inspired. It's another one of those mornings, snuggling with my husband or kids on the porch with my pumpkin spiced latte topped with whipped cream & a drizzle of caramel sauce! Deep breath & smell the autumn spices in the air! The pumpkin patches & corn mazes are another tradition every autumn, taking family pic's while we pick out pumpkins & gourds for our porch decorations! We have visited several in central Arkansas over the years. We enjoy a tractor pulled hayride to the pumpkin patch. Picking out the perfect carving pumpkins usually takes a few minutes wading through vines, leaves, & pumpkins snapping pictures! After riding back through the haunted graveyard & scary decorations swinging from the trees, we arrive back at the pavilion. The covered pavilion stores all of the pumpkins, gourds, & corn stalks for sale. I love to support farmers in my area. I've heard people say that it's more expensive to buy them from the pumpkin patch, so I did a price comparison with some of the local grocery stores. I found that the prices were about the same! The pumpkin patch has a better selection, especially if your searching for a variety of colors & textures! If you just need a pumpkin to put in the school decorating contest, then the grocery store is just more convenient unless you plan ahead. Corn mazes are fun too! The kids love to lead us around & guess which way to go. There are plenty of photo opportunities as we walk around to the farm vignettes, autumn & Halloween displays, & sometimes animals to ride or pet! Some farms now have picnic areas or even food trucks! They even take credit/debit cards thanks to card readers & internet service reaching places out in rural Arkansas. Decorating for Fall Get inspired before you get busy! Take a drive to let nature inspire you or drive by displays in shop windows. Look through your favorite on-line media, or a magazine to get the look you like & ideas to try! You can get 3 months of an awesome autumn display with little effort if you start out with a basic fall design for September. Next, pop in a couple Halloween pieces for October to extend the design. In November, arrange some Thanksgiving pieces within the design! Make time in the beginning to save tons of time, energy & effort later when it's time for family! Organizing in Autumn
Next, think about how you actually use the refrigerator or pantry & how you would like to use them. Have specific shelves or places for categories:1 shelf for dairy & a deli drawer for meats in the refrigerator, or in the pantry, breakfast on 1 shelf & cans/jars in a basket on another. No solution will work for everyone, but if you think about how you want to use the space, organizing it will get easier! By the time Thanksgiving comes, everyone will be use to utilizing the organized fridge or pantry & leftovers will always have a spot! An organized pantry will also help take the stress out of doing an inventory check & list making for grocery shopping day! Art is an awesome thing when you have the right pieces. Aesthetic art is just to look at, but applied art is functional & good looking!
