AUTUMN'S IN THE AIR...Winter is almost here! Time to get transitioning... The 1st snow fell both in Arkansas & Maryland in the same week! How crazy is that? Now that Halloween is gone, & the fall scene is looking like it needs to go back to storage, we can utilize some of those pumpkins for inside Thanksgiving decorations! ...DECORATING FOR FALL WITH AUTUMN INSPIRATION...Decorating for the holidays is stressful during a busy time of year! Let's make a big impact on your holiday design with as little effort as possible. The table is the focal point of the feast, so this is the best place to emphasize! Pick one spot to put your effort into, (instead of sprinkling it around) when limits have you overwhelmed & running out of time. Tablescapes are easy & give that WOW factor everyone wants! Decide on a mood, color scheme, or theme for your holiday experience. I love to sketch out a few ideas that I like based on some research. Then, I put together a main sketch to get a visual on what the scene might look like in the end. Sometimes items change or get omitted by making slight adjustments along the way. Before getting started, pull out all of your holiday decor. Take note of what you have available to you. You already store them, so use them! If you have evergreen trees in your yard, or in a neighbor's yard, you can use them as well... Fresh plants make a welcome addition, & bring a lovely fragrance to the table. Think about the design in layers. The base or foundation pieces include tables, table clothes, chair covers, etc. This is a great way to set the background color. Next, layer up the dishes. Add a charger to the bottom layer for some color or texture! After the place settings are in place, you can build the center pieces. Some start with the center pieces, but I like to make sure my settings fit well. When it comes to items for the center piece, scale & proportion are key to a beautiful & useful table. Taller items should not be placed in a spot that obstructs your view to the person across from you. An inviting table is one that you can visually admire, as well as, converse easily with others! A variety of textures create an interesting tablescape. Try using burlap or butch block paper for a rustic holiday. Add a little bling to your table with mercury-glass candle holders & mirrors for more elegant designs! Create that perfect natural feel with fresh greenery & wood. Tablescapes are endless; so have fun, & play around with what you have already before running out to the store!
