...A celebration of winter...
&
a new decade!

Welcoming the New Year with bright tidings!  Be a bright spot in an otherwise dim, gloomy day...Help someone have a better day by lighting their day with kindness & help!

...DECORATING for Winter...

Change out some old pieces with new pieces that brighten up a room inside or a spot outside. Edit out the pieces that don't work or aren't needed. Try something different like incorporating the new color of the year...Classic Blue!

Change the bedding, couch pillows, curtains, rugs, art or paint the walls.  The dark color on the walls absorbs much of the light in the room, so light furniture or floors are used to balance out the light.

Go wild & use it all over or stay reserved & sprinkle it around, either way this rich hue has a lot to offer this year! From a country kitchen to a modern lounge, & everything in between.

If you're one of the many people who incorporated last year's coral color & want to add this year's color, you're in luck because they are complementary colors! Blue & orange have been paired up for ages.  So, no matter what shade or tint of orange you choose, it'll be fantastic.  I love orangey copper metals because they come in a wide variety of shades & patinas...Since yellow is close to orange on the color wheel, brass & gold are lovely with blue as well.  However, silver, nickel,  & chrome are always a classic with classic blue!

...A reorganization OF WINTER...

As I decorate for the holidays in December, I acquire new items to go with the new design or replace the broken items. When January rolls in, I update the storage containers every so often as needed.  Over the years, I must admit, I have collected an enormous amount of holiday decor; however, I don't have to get them all down every year to figure out which boxes I'll need to decorate with because the items are all contained in see-through plastic tubs with handles for easy carrying.

I label 2 sides of each box & try to keep the labels located in the same areas to make looking for the label second nature!

This year, I purchased some new containers & reused others that I already owned.  All of the containers are clear to make it easy to see what's in there. Even though they have labels, I like to see the contents (I'm a visual person, so I like to see what's in there!).  The containers also have colored handles or lids to instantly know what color decor I'll find in the box.  That doesn't always happen or the store doesn't have the color I need, so that's another reason I choose clear boxes to see through.  Once the holiday decor is back in storage, it's time to work on the rest of the house...get started early on the spring cleaning this year!

...the art OF WINTER...

Don't forget to relax & have fun this year...I love a good winter wonderland picture, so what better time to get together with friends or family & have an art party!  Landscapes are a great opportunity to utilize the new color of the year, Classic Blue!
Moonlit Landscape
By Jenn Honeycutt
These are my 2 favorite winter landscapes painted @ my art parties!  The painting above is the original design, but the painting below is a winter adaptation of a fall painting.  I loved the birch trees, but wanted a winter scene.  I painted snow banks instead of leaves piled along the banks.  This design could also have wild flowers painted in the grass for a spring landscape!  Don't be afraid to take an idea from different sources to create your own look or style.  Be brave & be creative.
