DECORATING iS IN THE AIR, WHERE...

For most of us with outside plants, this is the time we have to decide what to do with all those plants that need to be moved inside for the winter.  Consider first, the needs or requirements of the plants.  Window sills are a good source of light, but consider drafts or heat vents they may affect the plants.
Tall plants are great for corners, adding filler to an otherwise empty space.  Light can often be an issue for corners, so adding a little extra light to the plant is helpful.  There are so many plant lights to choose from these days.  No matter which you decide to use, make sure it's LED.   LEDs save money & don't put off lots of heat, which can scorch your plants.
Another decorating tip is to add a variety of heights with plant stands.  If you have a lot of smaller plants, get a stand that holds several to maximize space.

Utilize the vertical space with plant hangers & shelves.  Small pots are perfect for the classic macrame hangers.

ORGANIZING iS IN THE AIR, THERE...

Get Organized Before the Holidays!  The holidays are so packed with stuff to do, buy, plan, & so on, that we get overwhelmed.  Take some of the stress away by knowing that everything's in its place & can be found easily...I'm hosting a workshop on Nov. 12th in Maryland to help you get started...Register Here!
For those of you that can't make it to Ft. Meade, here's some helpful tips.
  • Start @ your front door & ask yourself: Can I get through my door easily & safely?  Check to make sure you have a place to unload your gear (shoes up & off the floor, coats & bags too!)  Is the area well lit?
  • Move on to the lounge/living room: When you pick up the area, do you have storage for the throw blankets/pillows?  What about electronics & books?
  • Dining/Kitchen: Check to make sure everything has a place to be stored or contained.  If you're having guests over, you might want to actually eat @ that table!  The countertops should have minimal clutter & items in the cupboards & drawers should be easily accessed, not falling over every time you open the doors.  Don't forget the fridge storage either!
  • Bathrooms:  Countertops should have minimal clutter & plenty of storage.  Check out some undersink storage solutions with containers to help maintain that clutter free zone.  Have linens put away, but easily accessible.
  • Bedrooms: Utilize the space under the bed with storage containers that can slide easily underneath & help keep the dust bunnies @ bay!  Also, using hangers that hold multiple items can free up space in the closets!
  • Office/Spare Rooms: If this is where you do most of your holiday prep or wrapping, then yes, tackle those areas too!  Especially if your having guests stay over.  The key to keeping up with it all is storage & easy access!  Sort, organize, contain, & you'll maintain (for a while, anyway)!

I absolutely adore gourd art!  You can do so much to a gourd.  You can carve, paint, stain, weave fabric on it; & the list goes on!  It can become part of the decor or a gift for someone special!  I picked out a few that demonstrate a variety of styles & uses.
