Back to School & Ready with a Student Center!
Let’s continue with the back to school items that cause stress... Homework & Work Space... Student Centers sometime serve multiple purposes, so having an effective space makes all the difference in efficiency! We don't like having to do homework, & that dread often leads to procrastination. Create a space that's inviting & motivating to keep the momentum going after you get started.
Focus Area-Choose a location with minimal distractions; an area provides a desk/work space that accommodates supplies; adequate light & electrical outlets!
Desk/Work Space-Big enough to have all of your materials accessible, & if possible, big enough to spread out! Being comfortable is important as well... that means no matter how you like to work, (standing, sitting, lounging, or a combination of those), your space should allow you to be comfortable & flexible. You don't want to be too relaxed while studying; laying down doesn't work. When you're relaxed, it's hard to stay focused or learn, which both need an active mind.
Books/Supplies-Both are expensive, so keeping them safe & organized is important! These items should be accessible within the student center, but think about age appropriateness. If you have kiddos@ different stages, keep certain items higher to prevent little ones from accessing them. Also, use closed containers to further prevent messes & damage. Magazine holders are great for containing book storage & organization!
Computer/Printer-No matter which type of computer or printer you may have, make sure they are updated & filled with ink/toner & paper! Not being able to complete the task @ hand quickly is one of the most frustrating & demotivating events that make people procrastinate on a regular basis!
