TIME TO hire a professional organizer...
Professional organizers are not all the same. They all specialize in specific areas, with varying skill levels, & techniques. So, choosing the right organizer for your project needs a little forethought & education. The area that you live in may limit the choice of organizer you have access to because of size mostly. If this is the case, you may need to source an organizer from a different area. Most organizers charge a fee for going outside of their area, so be prepared for that charge as well.
Knowing what your goal & budget is before you start looking for an organizer, is the best way to find the right organizer for your project. This is where the organizers' specialties can determine which organizer to choose. Residential organizers have different skills & techniques than commercial organizers. Moving residences is a great time to hire an organizer, but not all organizers help pack or unpack. However, some organizers specialize in moving to & from by scheduling every part of the process: decluttering, packing, hiring a moving company, unpacking, organizing, etc. Sometimes, all you need is someone to help you sort, declutter, & organize. Other times, you want a whole new redesign with an emphasis on organization. So knowing what type of project you want to accomplish is key to hiring the right organizer.
There are a variety of certifications offered to professional organizers, but there is no set standard or guidelines. That being said, the different certifications have their own standards & guidelines. To become certified, most programs require a set amount of paid sessions/hours, as well as a test, to be completed before achieving a certification. In other words, it takes time to get a certification & they must be actively working in the field while getting paid.
Professional organizers price is based on the market & skill level, for the most part. Organizers usually charge per hour or per session. The project size & scope require different skills & time making the price vary from client to client. Another factor in price is the involvement of the client throughout the process. The more involved the client is in the process, the faster it will be completed. Also, client involvement helps them learn the process, which leads to a better success rate for maintaining the system. Items needed to complete the project like containers, hangers, & such, are a seperate fee from labor & skill. This too varies from organizer to organizer. Some organizers charge for shopping & some simply upcharge items to cover that time spent sourcing the items. Some organizers recommend items with a list to allow the client to shop for themselves for no charge. Most organizers are flexible. Professional organizers are starting to offer virtual organizing as part of their services. This is usually a less expensive option for some clients. Virtual organizing is great for clients that need some advice on the most effective/efficient process or an action plan that they can implement themselves. Hiring a professional organizer is an investment that can change your lifestyle in a short period of time!
